Data Protection & Privacy

The Society complies with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) (and previously the Data Protection Act (1988) which has been superceded by the GDPR). The GDPR came into effect on 25th May 2018 and provides regulations on data protection and privacy. The regulations are overseen in the UK by the Information Commissioners Office (ico.org.uk). Click here for information on the GDPR.

Under the previous Data Protection Act 1988 (DPA) which was designed to protect personal data stored on computers or in an organised paper filing system the Blakeney Area Historical Society (BAHS) was categorised as a not-for-profit organisation.

Members are defined as current members (i.e. with an up to date subscription) and lapsed members (i.e. without an up to date subscription). Members provide their contact details and other information to the BAHS. The information provided plus membership records on subscriptions is used by the BAHS for the purposes of running the Society including the management of its membership and for communicating with members. The Society does not pass on members’ details to other organisations or third parties without their explicit prior approval.

If you are not a past or present member and have signed-up to our information emails the Society manages the very limited data provided in the same way as members’ data.
