Welcome to the website for the Blakeney Area Historical Society (BAHS). The website provides information on the activities of the BAHS including our planned events. A particular focus of the website is providing information on the History Centre collection operated by the BAHS. The collection held at the History Centre is extensive and the website provides just a small but growing insight into it. Orginally the BAHS was called the Blakeney History Group when it was formed in 1990.
The Society’s History Centre contains collections on local village history for Blakeney, Cley, Morston, Wiveton, Salthouse, Letheringsett and elsewhere. There are a number of family histories available plus documents such as wills. House history including many property deeds have been gifted to the society.
Being on the North Norfolk coast there is a considerable amount on local maritime history. Additionally, the society has copies of registers including the Blakeney School register 1864-1912, the Kenneth Allen papers plus childhood memories and oral histories.
The History Centre may found at the back of the Blakeney Village Hall (it is part of the Village Hall but has a separate entrance) and is open to the public on a regular basis.
