Appeal for Photos of WW1 Casualties

Biographies of the 39 Blakeney casualties of the Great War are being completed by Pam Peake. These will be either posted on the BAHS web site or available for viewing at the History Centre. This follows on from Pam and John Peake’s successful ‘Blakeney Remembers’ exhibition last November at Blakeney Church to commemorate 100 years since the end of WW1.

Sadly, however, finding photographs of these men and boys has proved more difficult. To date Pam has managed to get photographs for 17 of them. Indeed the very latest addition, William Seales, only came to light a few weeks back on the ‘Old Blakeney’ Facebook group.

The photos of the original 16 soldiers and other information from the exhibition may be viewed here.

That leaves a further 22 casualties whose faces remain unknown after a hundred years. The names of the casualties are listed below in the fervent hope that someone might just recognise a relative and, even better still, be able to provide a photograph. In uniform would be wonderful but is not essential. As the above link shows, photographs lift the men off the page making their stories a more meaningful contribution and their sacrifices even more poignant.
